(adapted from: “How Does a Dinosaur Go to School?”)
What does Mommy do when she’s mad?
Does she scream?
Does she scold the kids for being bad?
Does she cuss?
Does she stomp both her feet?
Does she make a big fuss?
Does she cry?
Does she ask God why?
Does she throw a big tantrum and punch the wall?
Does she wonder why nobody is listening at all?
DOES MOMMY YELL?
No. (not anymore!)
Mommy has taken an anger management (for parents) class.
She has learned that she is very normal, at last.
She now knows the importance of taking care of her self.
She has stopped putting her needs up high on a shelf.
She better understands what is making her mad.
It isn’t the kids, and it’s certainly not Dad.
She has learned to single each trigger out.
They no longer build until she screams and she shouts.
She has learned some positive discipline techniques.
The house is running so smoothly, she barely needs to speak.
Now Mommy rarely loses her cool.
Thank you, thank you, anger management school.
Did you really take an anger management class????? Cuz I really can’t even imagine you getting mad. I think your kids are so dang lucky to have you as a mom. I was just thinking about that today as I was doing laundry. For some reason I was thinking, “Gee, Jenn is such a good patient mom.”
i’ve been looking for that book you suggested. of course, we don’t have it here in dilly. i seriously think i could benefit from some anger management stuff. and i can’t ever imagine you mad jenn. the first half of your dinosaur questions are all me…i yell, i growl, i punch the wall, etc. i always admit to peeps i do this and i lose my marbles quite too often, but no one ever admits back to me that they do as well. i only wish there was an anger management class here….nick told me i needed one years ago. as i’ve really taken a step back and tried to understand my anger issue and stuff, i’ve been seeing them in jonas as well….and i’ve been more understanding and patient with him when it’s his turn to explode. you should give me a mini session when i’m in boise! i’ll make you some cinnamon rolls for payment!
Jenn,
Not only are you kind, loving and patient…you are also a great writer and poet! I see where Ava gets her poetic talents! Glad the class helped! Wish I had taken one when I needed it years ago!
