We just got back a few days ago from our trip to Denmark to visit Uncle Dave, Aunt Hulya, and Aylin. We had such a great two weeks there, wish we could do it every summer.
Traveling via airlines was… traveling via airlines. Despite all the inconvenience of security lines, hauling suitcases down the terminal, being stuck on the tarmac for 4 hours due to mechanical problems and weather, we eventually made it to Denmark some 20 hours after leaving Boise. Thankfully both Ava and Annalise did so great traveling we were both amazed.
The iPad was a great help keeping Ava entertained. Not much to do while sitting but play games and play with Photobooth.
Ava and Annalise getting over their jet lag.
We made a trip to Frederiksborg Slot, an amazing castle with beautiful gardens. The landscaping is amazing.
Ava and Aylin had so much fun playing together. Both of our families got iPads that are so addictive for the kids with countless games to play.
Dave and Scott went fishing nearly every night (and nearly every morning), trying to catch the elusive (during summer months) Pike. Dave managed to bring a nice one in near the end of the trip.
We found lots of caterpillars. One thing Ava and Aylin have in common is that they both love them.
Dave and Scott made a trip to the original Carlsberg Brewery (now a museum). Got to learn the rich history of the brewery and it’s founder.
Lake Bradebaek’s crawdad fishery was world-class. Every morning we would bring up the trap with 25-45 crawdads which the girls loved catching and throwing back in the lake.
We rented a pony and Aylin and Ava took turns riding “Blackie”. Such a unique opportunity and a beautiful setting.
Scott, Ava, Dave, and Aylin going for a spin around the lake. The weather was so great nearly the entire time we were there.
Perch fishing was great. All three girls had fun fishing for them.
One day we kept the daily crawdad harvest and had a tasty dinner of crawdad, corn, and black current pie from the berries we had picked nearby.

We went to the beach twice because of all the nice weather. The first day was warm but very windy, but still Ava and Aylin were among the few to brave the cold water and have a great time.
Ava and Marcus (a very social neighborhood boy) playing on the swing on the back porch while we were preparing dinner.
We made a day trip to the Copenhagen Zoo. It is an excellent zoo for kids, with nice animal displays, a huge butterfly exhibit, and a large playground and petting zoo. Everyone had an awesome time.
Aylin is such a good walker. Pulling Ava through the zoo on the wagon.
There was a really cool nearby playground, complete with a zip line that the kids loved.
Another day we went to Tivoli where the girls had tons of fun riding the rides.
That’s all for now! We look forward to coming back!
so there are a billion things to comment on about your denmark trip, but what we are dying to know is if that bunny at the castle was a flemmish giant? nick and i have wanted a flemmish giant since college, and that cute bunny looks very much like our dreamy giant rabbit. but it looks like you guys had fun! 4 hrs on the tarmac???? really? i think i would have gone crazy!
The rabbit was funny because he is sitting in this immaculately landscaped garden like he owned the place. You’d think the gardeners would want to get rid of him but maybe they let him be. He was probably the highlight of the castle tour for the kids. I think he is a European Brown Hare?
