Some may say I am a little late in the game but I am 90% sure that I am switching to cloth diapers. I have been doing a lot of online research and talking to parents who use cloth. Right now it just seems like the way to go. I was doing some reading on potty training (not that I think Ava is ready, just planning ahead) and I have discovered that most children are not FULLY potty trained until they are 2 1/2 – 3 years old. By fully, I mean that I can not have a single diaper in the entire house and still feel confident about going on outings. I have also learned that when people say "Sarah was potty trained when she was only 2!" "Only 2" actually means 1 week away from turning 3. I really don’t want to invest anymore money into disposable diapers, when I never really liked them anyway. Here are the Pros and Cons of cloth diapers.
PROS
- Better and more comfortable for Ava’s tush
- Seems to be a more natural transition to underwear
- Saves Money (even at 13 months we’ll save close to $1000)
- Less trash in the landfill
- Cloth diapers and a t-shirt are so cute on a baby!
CONS
- Not as convenient
- Baby clothes are not made to fit over cloth diapers
- Can you say "baby got back!"
- More laundry
The other 10% of my mind will be made up once I actually use cloth diapers for an entire day + overnight. I have a starter kit on the way so I will let you know how it goes.
