Memorial Day Powered Parachute Rally

Jenn, Ava, and I left last Friday and drove 6 hours to an area near Pasco, Washington to attend the Memorial Day PPC Rally. There was a good turnout and it was lots of fun. The weather was pretty good, with great flying conditions most mornings and evenings. At times there were probably 40 PPCs in the air, flying all around the area. Ava loved watching all the aircraft flying around.

The camping was on a sod farm, which turned out to be great for Ava. She could walk all around the area in bare feet, and not hurt her feet or get dirty since it was all perfectly cut grass.

I took over 200 pictures, you can view the entire gallery by visiting www.scottandjenn.com/cpg/thumbnails.php

Here’s a couple of my favorite pics:

This is the setting, a very large sod farm surrounded by farm land. People camp in trailers and RVs during the fly-in.

Lots of fun watching everyone flying around

A beautiful evening brought everyone out to fly till sunset

Lots of varieties of chutes to look at and identify different pilots and aircraft

Ava "flying" our PPC back to the trailer after I got back from a flight. She will be a great pilot!

Clyde Poser brought his weight-shift trike out, it was a lot of fun to watch!

Here’s me shortly after takeoff:

Yesterday my dad and I went for a flight in the PPC.  The weather didn’t seem too bad on the surface, but it was a very bumpy flight and we got tossed around quite a bit. So not the most enjoyable flight.  I think we were both glad to be on the ground again after landing.  It was one of those flights where you are glad everything is overbuilt, and very glad that a powered parachute self-corrects in almost any condition.  A few nasty wind gusts pitched and rolled the cart at times. Overall it just wasn’t a relaxing and enjoyable flight like it should have been and normally is.  We’ll try it again maybe on a smooth day when we are in a big high pressure weather system.

Weather is warming up

I went flying twice this last weekendm a short hour flight on both days. Was a lot of fun now that the weather is warming up.
