Oregon Coast 2011 – Part 1 / 3

In July we went to the Oregon Coast with Scott’s parents and brothers’ families and Jenn’s younger brother Max. So the fifteen of us (Jenn, Ava, Annalise, Scott, Max, John, Jess, Kayla, Piper, Sawyer, Dave, Hulya, Aylin, Roger and Nancy) rented a beach house in Gleneden Beach, Oregon We left at 04:30 AM, drove all day and arrived mid afternoon. The entire picture set is [here], but here are some of the highlights of our trip.

The long drive went surprisingly well. Plenty of “are we there yet?”s but all things considered it was a fun drive. Luckily Scott brought an old tape cassette of MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” to pass the time and pass the bad music we listened to as kids on to the next generation.

The house had a hot tub that the kids (and adults) really enjoyed.

One of the best things about all staying in the same house is watching all the cousins bond and have a great time.

One day we rented a boat and went crabbing in the Newport bay.

…and had a crab feast that evening…

Scott towed the powered parachute trailer to the coast as there was a small municipal airport 5 minutes away from the beach house. The weather was unusually good and we were able to get a flight in almost every morning. This is some of the most scenic flying, really beats the flying in the Idaho desert.

Here are some more pictures from our San Diego trip:

Scott and Tasty (Mike) McDole on Homebrewers night. This was an event we both attended where we sampled beer from homebrewers. Tasty is famous in the Brewing world for having the ability to clone many commercial beers. He's pretty much a legend. (i think this is what makes him so awesome..hmm.. oh well, scott will edit this if I'm wrong!)

If you ever plan on going to sea world or the zoo with young kids, plan on spending 1 1/2 days at each one. We got a 5 day pass from Costco that allowed us admission to both places for 5 consecutive days. for us, that worked out perfect.

Our last day was spent at La Jolla beach. and then later we went to Oceanside to eat at Pizza Port (the yummiest pizza ever) and then took a walk at Oceanside beach.

San Diego 2011 – Day 1

worry! worry! worry! that’s all I did about our trip to San Diego. turns out that all my worrying paid off. I worried everything away! Like what, you ask?

well, I worried about Lisey on the plane. she was perfect!
I worried about the girls NOT sleeping well in the hotel. They slept wonderfully!
I worried Kayla wouldn’t have fun. She had a blast!
I worried about driving around San Diego (I never drive in other cities). I got us where we needed to go without any problems!
I worried I’d forget to pack something really important. I didn’t!

As you can tell, everything went much better than expected.

We went to San Diego for the National Homebrewers Conference. Scott attended presentations during the day while Kayla, Ava, Lise, and I went to the zoo and sea world. In the evenings, Kayla would watch the girls while Scott and I attended social events.

Here are some pics from the trip.

Annalise on the airplane. She was a lap infant but the seat next to me was empty so she “kind of” had her own seat.
